Fifth Report of the Committee on Scientific Memoranda
Trans. Devon. Assoc., 1880, Vol XII, pp.70-98.
by
W. Pengelly
Prepared by Michael Steer
This report, delivered by the Association’s Science Editor, was read at Totnes during the Association’s July 1880 meeting. Its purpose was “to note the discovery or occurrence of such facts, in any department of scientific inquiry and connected with Devonshire, as it may be desirable to place on permanent record but may not be of sufficient importance in themselves to form the subjects of separate papers.” The Memoranda are arranged under 10 separate heads and are 49 in number - Archaeological, Botanical, Centenarian, Ceramic, Geological, Hydrographical, Meteorological, Mineralogical, Numismatical, and Zoological. The Report has been recovered from a copy of a rare and much sought-after journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitization of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
