Prepared by Michael Steer

Dr. Brushfield’s Presidential Address was delivered at the Association’s July 1893 Torquay meeting. The present resultant lengthy Paper was supported with a highly detailed Appendix in two parts, the second of which provided the following Table of Devon’s major authors to 1640.
Association President for 1893, Thomas Nadauld Brushfield (1828–1910) was a noted antiquarian. His comprehensive biography with portrait is available in Wikipedia, and his obituary is available In GENUKI.
Dr Brushfield’s Presidential Address including the invaluable Appendixes appear in a rare journal downloadable from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
