The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Clomantagh contained the following places:

"CLOMANTAGH, (or Clomanta), a parish in the barony of Cramagh, in the county of Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles to the W. of Freshford. The surface is low, lying between the rivers Nore and Suir. Tile living is a rectory in the diocese of Ossory, Ferns, and Leighlin, in the patronage of the Incumbent of Urlingford. Two castles were built here by the Shorthalls, the ruins of which may still be seen. This parish takes its name from Clogh-man-Ta, i.e. " Stone of God," the name of some Druidical remains in this locality.
