The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilcockan contained the following places:

"KILCOCKAN, (or Kilcrohane), a parish in the baronies of Coshmore and Coshbride, county Waterford, province of Munster, Ireland, 6 miles S. of Cappoquip. Youghal is its post town. The parish is 4 miles long by 2 broad. The surface extends along the E. side of the Blackwater. The soil is indifferent. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lismore, value with Templemichael, £98, in the patronage of the bishop. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Templemichael. Strancally Castle is a Gothic structure surrounded by fine grounds. The ancient castle, now in ruins, was a seat of the Desmonds, and was granted to Sir Walter Raleigh after its forfeiture.
