The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Betws contained the following places:

"BETWS, a parish in the hundred of Iskennen, in the county of Carmarthen, South Wales, 7 miles to the S. of Llandilo Fawr. Carmarthen is its post town. It is situated in a mountainous district. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of St. David's, value £98, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is dedicated to St. David. The parish extends about 5 miles in length and 1 in breadth."

"GLANAMAN, a hamlet in the parishes of Betws and Llandilo Fawr, county Carmarthen. It is situated in the Black mountains, within a short distance of the town of Llandilo-fawr. The river Aman flows through the neighbourhood."
