The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Llanfihangel Abercowin contained the following places:

"LLANFIHANGEL-ABERCOWIN, a parish in the hundred of Derllys, county Carmarthen, 2 miles N. of Laugharne, and 9 S. W. of Carmarthen its post town. It is situated on the northern bank of the Taff, near the confluence of that river with the Cowyn, and includes the hamlet of Pentre. The village is considerable. The living is a curacy annexed to the vicarage of Mydrim, in the diocese of St. David's. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. There are places of worship belonging to the Calvinistic and Wesleyan Methodists. In the churchyard are three ancient tombs called the "Pilgrims' tombs." The charities amount to about £10 per annum. Fairs are held on 12th May and 10th October."
