In 1868, the parish of Llansawel contained the following places:

"LLANSAWEL, a parish in the hundred of Cayo, county Carmarthen, 8 miles N. of Llandilo Fawr. Llandovery is its post town. It is situated on the river Cothi, and includes the hamlets of Edwins, Ganol, Glyn, and Wen. This was formerly a market town, and is now a polling-place for the county. A very mountainous and rugged district separates this parish from the Vale of Teifi. From the elevated lands a view is commanded of the Vale of Cothi. The living is a vicarage annexed to that of Cayo-Conwyl, in the diocese of St. David's. Fairs are held on the 12th May, 15th July, 23rd October, and the first Friday after the 12th November."

"EDWINS, a hamlet in the parish of Llansawel, county Carmarthen, 10 miles N. of Llandeilo-fawr."

"GANOL, a hamlet in the parish of Llansawel, county Carmarthen, 9 miles N. of Llandilo-fawr."

"GLYN, a hamlet in the parish of Llansawel, county Carmarthen, as above, 8 miles N. of Llandilo-fawr. The river Cothi flows through this neighbourhood."
