The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Penboyr contained the following places:

"PENBOYR, a parish in the hundred of Elvet, county Carmarthen, 4 miles S.E. of Newcastle-in-Emlyn, its post town, and 11 from Carmarthen. It is situated near the river Teivi and the Sarn Helen Roman way. There are several tumuli in the neighbourhood, and many coins have been found. The living is a rectory* with the curacy of Trinity annexed, in the diocese of St. David's, value £325. The church is dedicated to St. Llawddog. Near the church is a Roman camp."
