CARMARTHENSHIRE PLACE NAMES

Hide

This listing has been produced from a nearly 1200-item index that has been constructed of (i) all the Carmarthenshire places and organizations named in A Topographical Dictionary of Wales (Lewis 1844), (ii) all the Carmarthenshire nonconformist chapels and their locations named in The Parish Churches and Nonconformist Chapels of Wales, Vol 1 (Rawlins, 1987), and (iii) the (ancient) parish names as given in Cofresti Plwyf Cymru: Parish Registers of Wales (Williams and Watts-Williams, 1986). Places which are not local to a particular town or parish, e.g. rivers, are not included.

For each such name a link is provided to the page in GENUKI where more information is to be found about the Carmarthenshire town or parish in which the place or organization is situated. (Note: this page will not necessarily contain information about the place or organization itself.)

Separate index entries are provided for each variant spelling of a name, together with an indication of the type of place or organization (chapel, church, farm, mine, parish, town, etc.) as indicated or implied by Lewis, Rawlings or Williams and Watts-Williams. (Where this cannot be determined the type is simply given as "place".)
