The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ewenny contained the following places:

"EWENNY, a parish in the hundred of Ogmore, county Glamorgan, 1 mile S.E. of Bridgend. It is situated on the old Roman road Via Julia. The river Ewenny, a tributary of the Ogmore, passes through the parish. The hamlets of Cortown, Lampha, and Wallace, are included within its limits. A Benedictine priory was founded here, as a cell to Gloucester Abbey, 1141, by Maurice de Londres. The people are mostly employed in the potteries. The living is a donative curacy in the diocese of Llandaff, value £40. The church is a massive structure, and contains monuments of the Carne, Turbeville, and other families. There are several small charities of about £2 per annum. Here are traces of an ancient camp. This place is a meet for the Coworidge harriers."

"CORTOWN, a village in the parish of Ewenny, in the county of Glamorgan, South Wales, 3 miles S.E. of Bridgend."

"LAMPHA, a hamlet in the parishes of St. Brides Major and Ewenny, hundred of Ogmore, county Glamorgan, 1 mile S.E. of Bridgend. It is situated on the Ewenny, a feeder of the river Ogmore, and near the line of the old Roman road Via Julia."

"WALLACE, a village in the parish of Ewenny, county Glamorgan, 1 mile S.E. of Bridgend."
