This project is fully described on Glamorgan Chapels Database

This Ilston database compiled by Gareth Hicks with contributions from;

  • Jeff Coleman

If a chapel is already mentioned on the main parish page then its name will act as a link to that section for any data recorded there - such as extant records and OS Grid references

Some chapels may have more than one entry if it is not possible to correctly identify each from a particular source

(For an explanation of the various non-conformist denominations see Wales - Genealogy Help Pages )

Baptist

Ilston Baptists

  • The first Baptist cause in Wales, founded at Ilston in 1649 by John Miles; they actually met in the parish church of St Illtyd although they referred to it as a meeting house. The 1660 Restoration of the monarchy brought religious intolerance with it and the Ilston meeting house was abandoned shortly after with its congregation forced underground; John Miles subsequently left for America

    This is a typical newspaper reference;

The United Reformed Church has issued a writ forcing the trustees of Mount Pisgah, Parkmill, to sell the church." (South Wales Evening Post, 30 June 2005)

NB according to the Kain/Oliver maps Park Mill village is mostly in Ilston parish despite this entry being listed under Pennard in some of the above sources
